Cool Spaces in Reading -Wed&Thu - 24/25 June 2026 - Recommended by Reading Borough Council

If you are out and about and need to rest in a cool place during the exceptional heat the following places are recommended by Reading Borough Council:

 

Reading Civic Offices, Bridge Street - 9am to 5pm - Air conditioned, seating, free drinking water and toilets available. Central Library open on Thursday. Wheelchair accessible.

Rivermead and Palmer Park Leisure Centres - 7am to 9pm - Air conditioned, free drinking water, toilets.Wheelchair accessible.

Whitley Community Development Centre Cafe - Northumberland Avenue - 9am to 3pm - not air conditioned but tends to stay cool. Free drinking water, toilets, wifi. Wheelchair accessible.

Age UK Berkshire Offices - Broad Street Mall (upstairs) - 10am to 3pm. Air conditioned - space for 6. Free drinking water, public toilets nearby. Wheelchair accessible. 

Atrium Cafe at Greyfriars Church (Friar Street) - 9am to 4pm - bookshop and cafe, air conditioned, FRee drinkin water and toilet access. Wheelchair accessible.

Cafe 12 at Lifespring Church (Oxford Road) - 10am to 2pm. Air conditioned, Step free access.
