Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Berkshire's mental health and community care trust, has been recognised by NHS England as an advanced foundation trust on 1st June 2026. This recognises high-performing NHS trusts and foundation trusts that demonstrate strong capability and performance, providing greater operational autonomy and financial flexibility to support reinvestment in patient care.
It also allows the trust to apply to take on and manage the entire health budget and responsibility for its designated population (essentially Berkshire's population) as in Integrated Health Organisation (IHO) which would require further assesment and qualification.
