Reading's Health and Wellbeing Board will meet at 2pm in the Council Chamber, Civic Offices, Bridge Street, Reading on Friday 15th March 2024.
Reading Patient Voice Group will meet in committee room 3 at RISC - 35-39 London Street, Reading RG1 4PS at 3pm on Wednesday 20th March 2024.
The meeting will discuss the rest of the year's programme, patient participation around Reading and hear reports from governors of the Royal Berkshire Hospital trust and Berkshire Healthcare trust. Also reports from other relevant meetings.
The meeting will be in person only, not online. Refreshments will be available.
The BOB (Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West) Integrated Care Partnership, which unites local authorities, NHS providers and commissioners, voluntary bodies and others to set strategy for NHS healthcare in our area, will meet in public from 9am - 11am on Thursday 21st March 2024 at the Oxfordshire County Council Offices, New Road, Oxford OX1 1ND.
At the Reading Health and Wellbeing Board on Friday, 19th January 2024, Sarah Webster, BOB Place Director for Berkshire West reported that the number of registered patients per full-time equivalent GP in the BOB area had reached 3,250. As some of us can remember when 1,500 was the norm, this is more than a doubling.
While there are additional clinicians now employed by surgeries and Primary Care Networks(PCNs), and efforts to bring community pharmacies into giving primary care, it seems unlikely that these could compensate for the enormous rise in the ratio of patients to GPs.
An article in the Health Service Journal reports that virtual ward costs are about double the costs of inpatient stay. These are the findings of a study at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals, in Greater Manchester, carried out with Lancaster University.
According to the report:
The BOB (Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West) area has England's 3rd highest drop in GP practice real-terms per-patient funding from the 2018-19 financial year to 2022-23 at 11.2%, according to research by the Parliamentary Library quoted by The Guardian newspaper.
