There are some services that you can refer yourself to without consulting your GP:
Anxiety and Depression
You can refer yourself to Berkshire Healthcare's Talking Therapies service. This friendly service can offer treatment if you’re aged 17 and over, and coping with common challenges like low mood or motivation, stress, worry or anxiety or phobias.
Their teams are available for contact 8am to 8pm, Monday to Thursday, and 8am to 5pm on Friday.
Call NHS Talking Therapies 0300 365 2000 and press option 2 (calls charged at local rate), or email talkingtherapies@berkshire.nhs.uk, or you can visit the Talking Therapies website.
This is not a crisis service.
Getting a Hearing Test, Hearing Aids, Checking or Repairing Your Hearing Aids
In Berkshire West you can refer yourself to the Royal Berkshire Hospital audiology service to get a hearing test, be provided with hearing aids, have them checked or repaired. Please click on this link for the hearing aids page, then click on "How to arrange a hearing test". Look down to find the self-referral criteria. If you fit, click on the link to the self-referral form and go from there.
Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy
You can refer yourself for physiotherapy. Some GP practices make arrangements for patients to get a physiotherapy appointment without seeing their GP first - check your practice's website or ask at reception or by phone. You can also refer yourself to Berkshire Healthcare's Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy service. Please visit this page and see if you satisfy the criteria, then proceed accordingly.
